Save the Honeybees!

A fellow blogger recently posted about her weekend visiting some cider mills in her state. It sounded like such a good time, and got me thinking about what kind of fun Fall activities Aaron and I could do locally on the cheap.

And I remembered - there's a honey farm and honey tasting room out in Fillmore. Every time we pass it one of us says to the other, "We should go there sometime." So I googled it: www.bennetthoney.com.

Not only does this family-run business make award-winning varieties of honey, but they're also doing what they can to address Colony Collapse Disorder among the honeybee population. I've heard that honeybees have been mysteriously disappearing for the past few years but I didn't know much more than that. The Bennett's site has a short article briefly describing the various theories behind the honebees' disappearance, then it explains the most accepted theory and what the Bennetts are doing to eliminate the cause. It's pretty interesting!

I am terrified of bees (we have a bad history!), but I do know that they're an extremely important and irreplacable factor in creating much of our food supply, and I think it's important that everyone is at least a little educated on this issue.

So anyway, I think we might be taking a trip out to Bennett's Honey Farm in the near future, if anyone feels like coming along!

Boo, weekend!

I am dreading this weekend.

How sad is that! Who doesn't look forward to a weekend? Especially one as action-packed as mine is. I have a Dodger game to go to, a girls' night, a birthday party, and catching up with old friends... I love being busy with fun stuff on the weekends, so why am I not looking forward to it?

Because hubby isn't going to be here, that's why! He's going to Laughlin for a bachelor party (I know, one doesn't normally associate "bachelor party" with "Laughlin," but the guys are getting old) and he's leaving tomorrow morning. I hate when he goes out of town. Yeah, I want him to have fun with his friends, bond, slap each other on the ass, or whatever it is they do when the women aren't around. But I miss him a lot when he's gone, and frankly, I just don't like being home alone either!

I guess I'll just have to pull up my big girl panties and get a grip already! And maybe open a bottle of wine... hmm... :)

Whoa it's been a little while since I posted anything here. Bad blogger! No cookie!

Hmmm I could really go for a cookie right now too, so you know that is punishment enough.

Aaron and I had a lovely 4th of July weekend. We were busy bees on Saturday! First we headed down to the street fair. I don't know why we keep going every year. I guess it's force of habit from when we used to live downtown and the "push 'em pull 'em parade" would start literally right in front of our apartment. It was always fun to watch people, their kids and dogs dressed up and their wagons and strollers decorated in red, white and blue. Then we'd just ride our bikes down Main St. to check out the street fair. Well, this year it hit me how GD many people go to this thing! It was insanity. Aaron estimated there were at least 10,000 people. So we bought some cookies, ate lunch at Jersey Mike's, and boned out.

After that we enjoyed some bbq, washoes and debauchery at a friend's house down by the beach, then popped by Aaron's youngest brother's housewarming party, and finished the night off with a (literal) bang back at the beach! The day went by so fast, I can hardly believe the weekend is already over! And that saddens me... sigh...

Now to prepare for my birthday, which is only 17 short shopping days away!

Woo Friday!

I know I say it a lot, but seriously. This week can not come to an end fast enough!! Just a few more hours now...

We have some fun stuff planned for the weekend. Tonight I'll be heading out to the Hollywood Bowl with Beth for Opening Night, and the induction of Josh Groban into the HB Hall of Fame. Garth Brooks is hosting, and there will be several performances besides Josh Groban as well. Oh, and it ends with fireworks! Seriously, a bottle of wine, music under the stars, and fireworks? What more could you ask for?

Aaron will be off to a party while I'm out galavanting tonight. And tomorrow we'll be headed to Refugio for a beach day with his family. They've been camping out all week and will be coming home on Sunday, and since Refugio is like Mecca to the VD's, we need to make the pilgrimage! Hopefully the weather will cooperate and we can spend some time on the beach, some time around the fire, and lots of time eating!

And of course Sunday is Fathers Day. Happy Fathers Day, dads! We're not really sure what's going on, but whatever it is will probably be made more fun by our presence. ;)

Just. Pure. Awesome.

Our anniversary getaway was great! Yes, I forgot my camera as usual (sheeoot!), BUT I did buy a disposable. When I get it developed I'll have them make a disc for me so I can upload some pics.

We stayed in Avila, and Aaron's big surprise for me was taking me to our favorite winery - Justin - in Paso Robles. We went on a tour and stayed for tasting, then we joined their wine club, and got on the list for the more exclusive club too. (Ooooh!) We really went all out, and I can't wait to get our first shipment!

The hotel was really nice too. It didn't look anything like a standard hotel room - there was a wet bar, a (gas) fire place, and a balcony with a little two-person hot tub on it. And the bathroom was huge, all travertine tile, like something you'd see in someone's home rather than in a hotel room. Just lovely!

I was really bummed to have to come home on Sunday after such a great weekend! Unfortunately, now Aaron has set a precedent and he's going to have a lot to live up to next year...

Kidding!!

Dang - I took a break from typing this and during that time Aaron stopped by my work and brought me 3 dozen red and white roses! Holy cow he's good.

Guess I should get him a card or something... ;)

The Countdown's On!

We'll be heading out of town for our anniversary weekend extravaganza in T-minus 2 days and 2 hours! I'm a little excited, could you tell?

I admitted to Aaron that I know where we are going. D'oh!! I found out ENTIRELY by accident though - there was absolutely no snooping or grilling involved. And I still don't know the details (which hotel, what we'll be doing, etc.), so I'm not going to tell you anything. SOMEONE has to be surprised here! I'm going to try really hard not to forget our camera this time, so expect some photos next week from our adventure.

OH and if anyone has any suggestions for yummy desserts we can take along with us on our trip, it would be fantastic if you'd leave your idea in a comment!

So, as predicted, this week is going by exceedingly slowly. My email is quiet. My boss is quiet (something MUST be wrong). My vendors are eerily quiet. Even my employees are quiet. I believe it's the calm before the storm, and that I should be very, very afraid for next week. We're doing a system conversion for our newly-acquired institution this weekend, and I have a feeling it's not going to go as smoothly as everyone seems to think it will...
