Lovin' the weekend

I have to say, for not doing ANYTHING we planned on doing this weekend, it turned out to be pretty productive.

Our backyard is starting to look a little nicer, we finally bought some plants - - AND we planted them! - - yesterday. We now have a red rose bush, 2 different kinds of yellow lily, a hydrangea, 2 azaleas (purple and pink), a red gerber daisy and a fern. The best part is most of them are already flowering! The roses smell divine, and the hydrangeas are blue for now. I hope they stay that way, I just love blue hydrangeas. With any luck our new plants will make it through the week, so at least they'll look nice for "VD Beer Festivus for the Rest of Us Invitational." Lord knows with my black thumb they won't last much longer than that!

Our once-dingy house is now bright and shiny, since Aaron scrubbed the whole exterior of the house and garage too! It makes such a difference. And now that it's looking nicer I'm feeling a lot more motivated to start tearing out the ugly plants in the front yard and try to grow something pretty. We're also trying to come up with a plan for the scary star pine living in the yard that may or may not include removing it entirely.

Still to complete - the fire pit! It's so close too. All we need is some sand, and I'm sure it will take only a couple hours to finish it off, but man, are we good at procrastinating. We still don't have blinds either of course, but I did discover some temporary window coverings at JCPenny that look like blinds! They were only $6, super easy to put up, and bada-bing - we don't live in a fish bowl anymore! It's pure heaven.

Now I just need a new front door, back door, and maybe if I'm really good, a table and umbrella for the backyard!

A gal can dream right?

Just. Pure. Awesome.

Our anniversary getaway was great! Yes, I forgot my camera as usual (sheeoot!), BUT I did buy a disposable. When I get it developed I'll have them make a disc for me so I can upload some pics.

We stayed in Avila, and Aaron's big surprise for me was taking me to our favorite winery - Justin - in Paso Robles. We went on a tour and stayed for tasting, then we joined their wine club, and got on the list for the more exclusive club too. (Ooooh!) We really went all out, and I can't wait to get our first shipment!

The hotel was really nice too. It didn't look anything like a standard hotel room - there was a wet bar, a (gas) fire place, and a balcony with a little two-person hot tub on it. And the bathroom was huge, all travertine tile, like something you'd see in someone's home rather than in a hotel room. Just lovely!

I was really bummed to have to come home on Sunday after such a great weekend! Unfortunately, now Aaron has set a precedent and he's going to have a lot to live up to next year...

Kidding!!

Dang - I took a break from typing this and during that time Aaron stopped by my work and brought me 3 dozen red and white roses! Holy cow he's good.

Guess I should get him a card or something... ;)

The Countdown's On!

We'll be heading out of town for our anniversary weekend extravaganza in T-minus 2 days and 2 hours! I'm a little excited, could you tell?

I admitted to Aaron that I know where we are going. D'oh!! I found out ENTIRELY by accident though - there was absolutely no snooping or grilling involved. And I still don't know the details (which hotel, what we'll be doing, etc.), so I'm not going to tell you anything. SOMEONE has to be surprised here! I'm going to try really hard not to forget our camera this time, so expect some photos next week from our adventure.

OH and if anyone has any suggestions for yummy desserts we can take along with us on our trip, it would be fantastic if you'd leave your idea in a comment!

So, as predicted, this week is going by exceedingly slowly. My email is quiet. My boss is quiet (something MUST be wrong). My vendors are eerily quiet. Even my employees are quiet. I believe it's the calm before the storm, and that I should be very, very afraid for next week. We're doing a system conversion for our newly-acquired institution this weekend, and I have a feeling it's not going to go as smoothly as everyone seems to think it will...

In the meantime, my friend Katherine and I have started a blog chronicling our observations about etiquette and manners (or rather, let's be honest, most people's lack thereof). Give us a gander at www.dontcalluskate.blogspot.com. It is sure to be the talk of the town!

Until next time!

Just a little pet-peevey

I went to Quizno's for lunch today. I try to eat lunch later in the day in order to beat the rush, but there were 3 people ahead of me. Oh well, no big deal. Except for this one guy who was in line right in front of me. He looked to be about 50 years old, and was wearing a suit, so he can't be a complete moron right? Wrong.

First of all, he is standing directly in front of not one, but two signs that say ORDER HERE in big red letters. Sandwich Maker looks up at him and smiles expectantly. Suit says (no joke), "Do I order here?"

Kitty smacks her forehead.

Sandwich Maker says yes. Suit tells her, "Gimme a torpedo." -- Okay I have to pause here. Yet another of my pet peeves is when people are ordering food and they say, "gimme" or even, "give me" rather than something more polite like, "I'd like to have...," or, "can I get a..."

Moving on.

S.M. asks Suit what kind of torpedo he'd like. He is amazed that there are different kinds. (NOTE that there were 2 people in line ahead of him and that he had to wait a couple minutes before he ordered - he had plenty of time to peruse the menu.)

Kitty smacks her forehead again.

S.M. proceeds to tell Suit what his torpedo options are. One of them is Beef, Bacon and Cheddar. Suit asks, "Does it come with beef, bacon and cheddar?"

Kitty smacks her forehead a third time. She is starting to get a bruise.

S.M. tells Suit that it does indeed come with all three aforementioned acoutrements. Suit says, "Okay." S.M. confirms Suit's hardly explicit decision by saying, "You want the Beef Bacon and Cheddar?" Suit replies, "HUH?"

Kitty looks around for hidden cameras, and upon finding none, loses all hope for humanity.

The Dodgers rock our world

The game yesterday was nothing short of RAD. Yep, I said it. And I'm not ashamed.

Well, okay, innings 3 - 7 were fairly uneventful aside from entertaining our seat neighbors with my cries of "horseshit!" whenever I felt the umpire made a questionable call. But the fact that the Dodgers swept the Padres in this series is pretty dang awesome. Not to mention that it was their 10th straight at-home win, which is a record for the club. Nice! We're really hoping that this year they keep going strong. I think it's about time they went back to the World Series!

The rest of the weekend was great too. Lots of friends and fun the whole time. You can see some evidence of what I did on Brandy's blog (I'm proud to say I wore a PinkZombies custom creation to B's younger twin sisters' birthday bash on Saturday night!). I'm always bummed when Sunday evening rolls around and I start hankering for next weekend all over again. They just go by way too fast while the work week seems to crawl. This week in particular I have a feeling is going to DRAG. I'm really looking forward to our anniversary trip - we're leaving Friday afternoon and it can't come soon enough.

Oh I also wanted to share my vitamin success story with you. On Friday I went home with a sinus headache that wouldn't quit. I never get allergies, so I'm pretty sure I was coming down with a cold. So I took a bunch of echinacea and Emer.genC Friday night and Saturday, and by Saturday night I was feeling just fine! I'm going to keep up my regimen for the rest of the week just in case something is still trying to kick my butt. Nothing is going to ruin this weekend for me I tell you! Nothing!!

It's Frickin' Friday!

Dang! It's about time the weekend rolled around. Actually this week hasn't been too terrible, just that today has been kind of stressful. And I am looking forward to this weekend!

If you want us, here's where you can find us the next couple days...

Tonight: Some local band playing at the Theater (Theatre?), preceded by some drinking and debauchery to get us prepped for rockin' out.

Tomorrow:
Me - going out on the town with my sistah-from-anotha-motha Brandy and her sisters (from the same and/or other mothers).
Aaron - going to see Strung Out with the usual suspects. He's going concert crazy this weekend!

Sunday: DODGERS (vs. padres)!! With Steph and Brian, in Tennay's family's AWESOME season seats. Mmm... hot dogs, cold beer.

Ain't life grand?

I think so.
